It was another mild day in this part of the world. The sun was shining down on the sparkling blue sea, dolphins and some large fish could be spotted jumping out of the water occasionally. The sky was mostly blue with only the occasional fluffy white cloud breaking the bright blue sky-scape. Some gulls could be seen flying from one of the many small islands that dotted the area. It was a pleasant, beautiful, completely normal day on here on Earth. Except for one thing lurking beneath the impenetrable blue surf.

An eight foot Orcosian swam through the sea hardly seeming any more out of place then the fish that dwelt within the sea. Ruurik had been under water for somewhere around ten minutes, being from an amphibious race he could breath under watter without any difficulty. Ruurik was down here gathering fish for a meal, intended for two people. Ruurik had originally come out to these islands after hearing rumors of an old powerful martial arts master who was recruiting warriors to fight the chaos. Ruurik didn't know what chaos that this old man was wanting to fight, but if it would solve some of the injustice in this galaxy than Ruurik was more than willing to stand with him.

Instead of heading straight to where he'd heard this masterful hermit lived Ruurik delayed. Not out of fear or a feeling of inadequacy, Ruurik was just going the traditional Orcosian route. On Orco whenever someone wanted training or ask any favor they came with an offering. It could be anything from jewels to art but most commonly it was food, it was a tradition that originally started before the Orcosian's had unified under a singular government. It was to ease tension when one asked a favor of someone outside of their own clan. It was a relic of the past but Orcosian's tended to care very much about their traditions, especially since the fall of Orco.

Ruurik waited in a brightly colored reef, his blue skin slightly blending into the surroundings. A fish shot out in front of him and Ruurik's hand shot out, a single finger piercing straight through the fish's eye, a small spurt of blood came out quickly dispersing into the surrounding water. With a few rapid motions Ruurik pulled the fish back in and used his nail to gut, clean and scale the fish under the water. Ruurik pushed the entrails back out into the water, grabbing a few strips of seaweed from a nearby plant and wrapped the fish into his knapsack with a few dozen other fish wrapped in a similar fashion. These fish was small game though, Ruurik was hoping their entrails would attract bigger more worthy prey. Ruurik smirked as he saw the prey he was really looking for.

It was a shark, about twenty feet long, Ruurik wasn't familiar with this type of shark, it was similar to a type of shark found on his home world but this earth version was only about a third of the size of the sharks on Orco. It was a right of passage for Orcosian's to hunt one of Orco's massive sharks for their passage into manhood. Unfortunately Orco had fallen before Ruurik had reached manhood, the pirates changed the rite to taking out a ship single-handedly but for some reason that didn't mesh well with Ruurik. So whenever he found himself with oceans capable of sustaining life he usually found an excuse to hunt a shark. It wasn't quite the same as hunting an Orcosian colossus but it still felt right.

Ruurik waited for the shark to close the distance, it was investigating the area and had swam right past Ruurik. Ruurik's hand shot out hitting the shark in it's midsection sending it flying a short distance away. The shark was shocked and circled back around spotting Ruurik this time. Ruurik shot out from the reef swimming into a more open area of the water, it'd be easy to take the shark out from the reef due to it's limited ability to move within it but Ruurik wanted to have some fun with this. The shark swam rapidly at Ruurik opening it's mouth in an attempt to take a chunk out of him.

Ruurik grabbed it by the top and bottom of it's jaws as it pushed him back. Ruurik smiled and forced the beasts jaws shut as he threw it's head upwards, following up with another open palmed strike to it's midsection. The shark flew back again, spinning slightly in the water as it came to a stop and circled back around. The shark came again rushing forward with it's mouth open, Ruurik smiled that was the problem with sharks they just didn't have enough versatility to be good opponents, not these small ones at least. Ruurik dropped down a little and punched the shark straight in it's nose, sending it flying away once again. This time however the shark retreated, obviously thinking better of trying to make a meal of Ruurik.

Ruurik wasn't about to have that though, kicking his feet rapidly Ruurik shot through the water easily outpacing the shark. In seconds he was on the shark. Ruurik was right above the shark, seconds later two beams of energy shot from his eyes, easily piercing the beasts head and shooting down into the water, a flurry of bubbles and super heated water followed in the path of the beams. The shark was dead in the water, just floating it's brain destroyed by the piercing beams of energy. Ruurik grabbed it's tail and swam back to the reef to retrieve his knapsack full of fish.

Ruurik flew out of the sea the heavy shark over his right shoulder the much lighter bag of fish over his left. Ruurik shifted the shark slightly to get a better grip on it before closing his eyes for a moment. Ruurik let his mind go blank as he let the world in around him, he could feel it of to the south east, a large power source. Ruurik wasn't sure how to explain this sense to someone else, it was like trying to explain green to the blind or the sound of waves to the deaf. Most Orcosian's were born with this ability to sense naturally, others had to develop it but generally it was common enough that no one need to worry about it.

Ruuik blasted off through the air, droplets of water flying from him, the shark and the sack of fish as he flew towards the power signature. Ruurik eventually found himself above a small island with a pink house with the word Kame painted on it. Ruurik landed on the beach, setting the satchel of fish down he flung the shark on the ground and began gutting it, throwing the guts into the water behind him when he was finished. It was simple work but still pleasing to Ruurik, when he had finished he picked the shark up and took it to the water to wash off the sand that had stuck to it's skin while Ruurik had gutted it.

"Can I help you?", came a voice from behind Ruurik. Closing his eyes he could sense that this was the same power that had drawn him here, the voice sounded young though. Turning his head to look over his shoulder Ruurik saw a young man with dark sunglasses stanng on the shore near the knapsack of fish. Ruurik cracked his brow.

"I apologize I was looking for th Turtle Hermit and thought this was his island", Ruurik responded bowing his head in apology.

"This is the Turtle Hermits Island and I am the Turtle Hermit."

"You are the Turtle Hermit?"

"Yes."

"You are the old martial arts master who is recruting warriors capabale of fighting Chaos?"

"Well I'm not so old anymore but yes I am one and the same. Most people call me Roshi though", Roshi said chuckling softly and rubbing his nose with a finger. Ruurik was shocked to say the least, he was expecting some wizened old human, not this young man. What was with the comment about not being old anymore, had he suddenly gotten younger. Ruurik was extremely confused by all of this.

"So what can I do for you young man?"

"Well I heard you were looking for fighters to combat chaos."

"And all the fish"

"A food offering to help me ask your favor."

"An offering for my favor? It sounded like you were the one offering your services."

"Well I can sense your power and I was also hoping that you could help me in my quest for the power to restore power to my people."

"Restore your people"

"My home world was taken by the Saiyans many years ago. I hope to return the planet to my people and hopefully divert them from their self-destructive path."

"A noble goal", Roshi said nodding slightly rubbing his chin as he did so. Ruurik remained silent waiting for an answer from Roshi. Ruurik really couldn't seem to get a read on Roshi he only hoped Roshi would accept him.

"I may be able to help you. However let us eat first, there is a forested island to the north where you can gather some firewood."

"As you wish Master", Ruurik grabbing a hold of the shark he hefted it and then threw it up onto the island. Ruurik could finish cleaning the shark when he got back. Ruurik's aura flared, the pushing the water away from his body, as he rose into the air.

"Be careful, you may find more on that island then you would think possible", Roshi warned not moving from his spot. Ruurik nodded and shot towards the north, confident that he could handle any threat this planet could throw at him.

A Relic of the Past (Quest, Solo) Empty Re: A Relic of the Past (Quest, Solo)

Ruurik soared through the air, the wind whipping his head tentacles about behind his head. Thoughts of what could be on the island flew through Ruurik’s head faster than he soared through the air. At first he hadn’t been worried but now he was wondering if this was some kind of trick. A test of some sort or maybe a trap, behind those big sunglasses Ruurik hadn’t been able to get a read on Roshi. Maybe that young man wasn’t the Turtle Hermit what if he was some imposter who had murdered the Turtle Hermit. Ruurik shook his head, if Roshi had wanted to end him back there he could’ve just done it there, there wasn’t really much point in sending him all the way out here. Odds are it must be some kind of test; the only question was what kind of test.

Spotting the island Ruurik came to a halt midair and looked it over. The island was dominated by trees, they covered almost every inch of the island, the most obvious thing on the island though was a massive mountain, and Ruurik assumed it was likely a dormant volcano. There was something else here though something beyond the conventional senses. There was a power level higher than Ruurik’s own by a great deal but not quite as powerful as Roshi’s. Ruurik tried to locate the source of the power, it was coming from somewhere inside the mountain. Ruurik flew down searching for an entrance, finding a massive cave that had been hidden by the tree’s on the east side of the mountain. Despite all the light outside the cave was pitch black just a few yards in. This darkness didn’t seem natural.

It was obvious that this energy signature was part of his test; the only question was if the test was to defeat the source of this power or if he was supposed to resist the temptation to fight. Ruurik took a breath and walked into the tunnel, if this was him failing this test so be it, he was going to investigate this energy signature, it felt too familiar. Within just a few steps he was plunged into the darkness and the cold quickly set in as if all the warmth were being sucked from his bones. This darkness definitely wasn’t natural, yet Ruurik continued into the darkness, he wouldn’t be stopped out of fear. Several minutes after walking down the tunnel Ruurik noticed a small light floating near the top of the tunnel.

”Follow”, came an all too familiar voice somewhere in front of Ruurik. The voice echoed throughout the tunnel as the light began to move down the tunnel, in the direction Ruurik had already been going. With a roll of his eyes Ruurik continued to walk down the dark tunnel, did he really need to be told to follow when the only other direction was back the way he’d came. As he continued to move down the tunnel Ruurik realized he’d lost track of how long it had been since he’d entered the tunnel. It hadn’t felt too exceptionally long but Ruurik realized his eyes seemed to be getting adjusted to the darkness. Who, or whatever, was leading Ruurik wasn’t exactly making small talk either; Ruurik wondered where he was being led.

After quite a bit more time walking through the tunnel Ruurik noticed a faint red light coming from somewhere up ahead. The faint light however did outline the person that was leading Ruurik; he stood nearly eighteen feet tall. Ruurik only knew of only one race that produced people of such size, Orcosians. Ruurik’s own people, a people he had been avoiding for the last five years. Ruurik had no idea what an Orcosian was doing on earth; let alone how they would’ve had any idea to wait for him in this tunnel under a mountain in the middle of nowhere. There was something odd going on here Ruurik just wasn’t exactly sure what. As the light touched Ruurik he noticed the heat jump dramatically.

Around the giant figure in front of him Ruurik saw them rapidly approaching the end of the tunnel, which was almost entirely filled with red light now. Ruurik noticed the figure that had been leading him now flew out into the room which the red light emanated from. The light now surrounded the large blue skinned being, large head tentacles hung down from its head all the way down to its waist. This confirmed Ruurik’s suspicions; this was definitely an Orcosian, an elder by the looks of it. Elder was a title given to an Orcosian after they reached a certain plateau of power, it had nothing to do with age but was usually only achieved by those near the end of their first millennium.

It was obvious this was an elder by the exceptionally long head tentacles, noticing this Ruurik was surprised that how close the power seemed to his own. Sure there was still a sizeable power gap there but it wasn’t like the difference he felt between himself and Roshi. Ruurik walked up to the end of the tunnel and looked out into the cavern before him. It was spherical and rather large, much larger than what seemed possible for that island he’d started on. The bottom quarter of the room seemed to be filled with bubbling lava, which explained the heat that he’d felt.

”Come let me get a look at you”, the elder said too Ruurik as he observed the room. Ruurik slowly flew up to the elder stopping so that they were eye level, showing just how different their heights were. The elder wore a dark tinted mask preventing Ruurik from seeing which of the elders it was behind the mask, elders were generally well known throughout Orco, Ruurik had been familiar with most of them, having met most of them personally.

”Not a very good specimen of our race now are you?” The elder stated, Ruurik could only assume that he was being eyed from beneath the mask, Ruurik merely smirked.

”Well you never really did care for having a runt as a son now did you father?” Ruurik stated shaking his head; he’d had suspicions since his father had first told him to follow in the cave. With the most recent statements though there was no longer a doubt in his mind. The elder merely shook his head and removed the mask chuckling slightly, revealing the face of Nuriek, Ruurik’s father.

”Well you were always a bright one, least you had something since the moons cursed you with a body unfit for combat”, Nuriek stated simply looking over his son, nothing but disgust in his eyes. Ruurik’s blood boiled Nuriek always despised having a runt for a son, Ruurik distinctly remembered his father telling the other elders that he had no true heir. Ruurik had been able to handle all the mean words from others of his race, but his father’s words stung harsher than any strike. If not for his mother it was likely Nuriek would’ve let Ruurik live past his first decade.

”I will do now what I should’ve done when you were a child”, Nuriek said striking out with a backhanded strike at Ruurik. Ruurik hardly had time to react, to the strike, just getting his arms up in time to defend even partially from the strike. Ruurik’s whole body ached despite having gotten up his defense; his father had always been exceptionally powerful, even if he was one of the weaker elders. Ruurik had no idea how he could defeat Nuriek, who was stronger than him in almost every way. There was no way he could truly stand against his father in this state. Ruurik retreated trying to get out of his father’s attack range. It was futile though as he was hit once again, knocking him across the room and into the stone wall.

The impact caused several loose stones to shake free and fall into the lava below. Ruurik recovered preventing himself to fall into the molten rock as well, Ruurik looked at his father and two beams of energy leapt from his eyes. Nuriek merely held up his hand the beams striking his palm, as they impacted it they burnt themselves out, causing some smoke to raise but no serious damage. Ruurik charged forward using his greater mobility to his advantage, he quickly moved around his father’s arm aiming an open palmed strike right between his father’s eyes. There was an explosion as the Ki ball that had been formed on his palm made contact; before the smoke cleared Nuriek’s head came through the smoke cloud head-butting Ruurik. Ruuirk flew back again into the wall, more loose rocks showering down upon him.

The falling rocks however gave Ruurik an idea though. Ruurik raised his hand shooting a Ki beam over his father’s head hitting the roof of the chamber showering his father in rocks who raised his arms out of instinct. Ruurik charged forward at his father who struck out again as soon as he realized, Ruurik used a speed burst to dodge the attack and was now behind his father. Ruurik took a single breath releasing it in a high powered burst of air, which sent Nuriek down towards the lava below. It didn’t take Nuriek long to recover though and launch an offensive of his own. Nuriek took a breath and Ruurik crossed his arms in front of himself bracing himself for a burst of wind; however it was a jet of flame that came from Nuriek’s mouth. Ruurik had no time to dodge, only managing to close his eyes as the flames washed over his body singing his flesh and giving off a smell of burnt fish. Before he could even open his eyes he felt two large hands wrap themselves around his body squeezing. Ruurik let out a scream of pain and struggled uselessly against the constricting hands.

[color=darkgreen]”You are weak, too weak to even bother killing, come back if you ever prove worthy”{/color], Nuriek scoffed as he threw Ruurik. Ruuirk flew through the air to tired to catch himself as he fell down into the lava. With a start Ruurik awoke, standing just outside the entrance to the cave. The power of Nuriek that he had sensed now gone, Ruurik looked up at the sky which was now beginning to darken and when he looked back he found himself looking at a wall of sheer stone. Ruurik was puzzled and more than a little frightened by this occurrence. Nothing could be helped now, all he could do was return to Roshi and tell him of what had occurred. Ruurik turned behind him and struck a single tree, causing it to break and fall over. Ruurik hefted the whole tree and then took off into the air towards Roshi’s island, trying not to think as he did so.

When Ruurik finally reached Roshi’s island the sun had set and he saw a large fire going with the fish on skewers all around it. The shark had been chopped into bits and was on a grill next to the fire the bones lying in a pile next to the house. Ruurik landed and dropped the tree on the beach.

”Looks like you didn’t need the firewood after all.”

”Not really kiddo. So tell me what did you find?”

”I found nothing but weakness. I have failed you.”

”No you found yourself motivation. You already had purpose but now you have the drive you need”, Roshi stated simply to Ruurik. Ruurik wasn’t too sure about that, if anything the fight had him feeling more hopeless then before. Instead of speaking though Ruurik just sat down next to the fire and took one of the fish biting into it. Ruurik and Roshi ate in silence.
