Lesson #4 – Attacks

Writing attacks may seem like it should be the easiest part of a battle. There are a few things that can really set apart a good roleplayer from a bad one, and they have to do with the way you describe your attacks. Just like with writing defenses and taking hits, always be fair and respectful to your opponent.

Positioning and Movement

It's very important to describe your movements and your position. There is a difference between shooting a short range and a long range attack. If you are at a distance, make sure to include that information. Also, make sure to indicate whether or not it's a head-on attack, or if you're attacking form the flank or from behind.

If you are flying at your opponent you will have more momentum than if you are just floating in front of them. This makes movement also important to describe, as it will aide your opponent in determining how they should defend or take the hit.

Clearly Describe

There is a difference between a normal strike and a rush attack. Even though you list your actions at the end of your post, make sure your descriptions match the part. If you're just throwing a punch, that's a strike. If you're throwing a heavy punch that's meant to send your opponent flying, make sure you write it that way, so they know without a doubt it's a rush attack.

You should be able to describe your attacks well enough that your opponent wouldn't have to look at the list of actions to decipher what you were trying to accomplish.

If you're using a ki attack, describe what it looks like. Think about colors and effects. Are there bolts of electricity surging from your fist as you power up that Dragon Punch? What color is your Big Bang Cannon? All of this will paint a vivid picture and in the end make you a more skillful writer.

Keep Opinion Out

“The punch was so fast that Goku knew there was no way Vegeta could dodge it.”

Avoid writing this kind of stuff. Stay as objective as possible when describing your attack. You might think that there's no way Vegeta could dodge it, but you don't know what Vegeta is going to do when his turn comes around. This is bad form, unfair, and can be irritating for your opponent.

Always Attempt

Do not auto-hit. Always leave room for your opponent to make the decision on what happens to them. You can take aim at your opponent, but you can't hit them. You can try to uppercut Goku, but you 're not actually uppercutting him. If you keep in mind that you don't know what will happen, you'll be better off not slipping up and accidentally auto-hitting.

Assignment

Describe two attacks of your choice against the foe from the previous lesson.

Battle Class - Lesson #4 - Attacks Empty Re: Battle Class - Lesson #4 - Attacks

Jeraph finally got a good look at his foe as the Destructive Wind subsided. The foe was humanoid in shape and was covered from head to toe in a hooded robe. Every feature that would make it stand out was covered. Jeraph took in the image of his foe, determined to make every motion and calculation count in his mind.

He immediately hovered above the ground flying. his ki blowing towards the ground bending the grass and weeds underneath him. He then rocketed towards his opponent, as he shot forward his charcoal grey ki enveloped his whole body, covering him in what looked like dark grey flames. The sudden eruption of ki caused the earth to crack and shoot rocks away from him. He flies towards the unknown assailant leaving a nice crevice in the earth as he flies.

In mid flight Jeraph drew his sword, moments prior to being within striking range of the foe, he suddenly flickered from sight, his speed becoming more than most would think possible. His motions were a blur to even the most trained eyes. As he used the burst of speed to give him a momentary advantage, and shifted his direction to the side of the unknown attacker. As he did he made a massive slash at the unknown beings stomach.

Immediately following the sneak attack, Jeraph released the flood gates on his ki, allowing it to well into his left hand. The flow of the ki felt much like the flow of the flooded Amazon river. It was wide, and deep, it completely swept through him, washing away all of his cares and anger. He had become angry while blocking the Destructive Wind. The Dragon Rush wasn't hard to dodge, but the teleportation had left him vulnerable.

The ki began to emerge into his left hand in a massive, crackling, super heated, mass of ki. The wave began to grow as Jeraph pumped more and more ki into the attack. Eventually it began to over flow causing bolts of stray ki to fly off hitting himself and the surroundings. Finally Jeraph threw his hand at the opponent and the Cosmic Cannon went flying directly towards the being. The charged blast had caused Jeraph's skin to blacken slightly from the heat before he released it.

Battle Class - Lesson #4 - Attacks Empty Re: Battle Class - Lesson #4 - Attacks

Post by Sairai 5/14/2012, 5:10 pm

Sairai turned toward the demon with a blue-white fire burning in his eyes. He’d been pushed to the brink for long enough. It was time he struck back. His azure ki surrounded him as he looked at the being before him. “You know, I was trying to be nice. I was trying not to attack you, but you’ve left me no choice. I have no idea why you’ve decided to home in on me and try to kill me, but... I’m not going to keep running from you.”

With those words, Sairai leapt off the ground and rushed toward his opponent, his ki raging outward around him. His palm was open, prepared to strike the being in front of him, and then suddenly he wasn’t there anymore. From behind the demon, Sairai said, “Now... Try and dodge this.”

Sairai could feel his chakras opening, funneling his spiritual power into his entire body. This time, however, he did not focus it into a single point. Instead he chose to allow it to radiate off of his body in a single burst of chaotic energy. Thousands upon thousands of blades of ki surrounded the Changeling, a veritable tornado of destructive energies surrounding him. With a smile on his face, the young man just stood there in the center, waiting for his power to dissipate, then he struck out toward the demon once more, his eyes intent upon the beast.

He flew forward and turned in midair, his tail stiffened, prepared to strike the demonic force in the ribs and send him flying. “I’m not about to lose to someone like you!”

Battle Class - Lesson #4 - Attacks Empty Re: Battle Class - Lesson #4 - Attacks

Post by Yamcha the banned 5/31/2012, 6:30 am

Yamcha stood strong on the rocky terrain as he looked the xeno mercenary hard, sensing his powers. He had no idea why this mercenary decided he was going to accept taking a mark like Yamcha so lightly and not get serious with his task at hand but the human master would not die to such vile scum.

Infront of him he saw a blue eyed, green skinned, red haired muscular and well built assassin wearing a PTO helmet with a scouter build it, top class flexware armor with a jumpsuit underneath, reinforced bracers on his wrists and reinforced boots on his feet. He looked tough, but he wasn't taking Yamcha as serious as he should have been. He just stood there, laughing at him as he was in an attack stance; not putting up his guard or attack.

They talked earlyer and the merc said that there was no way he could defeat him. Yamcha knew better then to believe everything he heard.

The mixed martial artist decided that now was the time to shut him up. The Wolf Druid then roared, gathering a large white aura about his body as he began to powerup to his maximum to show this creep he wasn't a joke. His powerlevel rose dramastically to an insane amount, so insane that when the merc's scouter beeped to alert him of the battle fighting power of the human warrior, he screamed;

"This is insane!! It's two hundred thousand!" As he was distracted shouting, he rushed with vengence, pushing off the ground and flying at the merc with an crystal white aura about his body and thrusted his arms straight towards the chest as he got close enough as Yamcha attempted to rush in with a charging brass punch, which would be both fists slamming hard into the upper torso while charging in fast with his aura boosting his speed.

He then quickly formed his hands into a triangle shape infront of his body in mere moments after preforming his first assault and by manipulating his spiritual pressure quickly, Discharged a Tri-beam at close range, the wide blast released with finess.
