South City Fighting Ring - Crono vs Khaos

The pool of zeni Crono had left for his journeys was becoming dangerously small. That is what prompted the red-haired teen to join a local martial arts tournament outside of South City. The thing was, Crono didn't really want to fight. He had been taught to only use his abilities when it was absolutely necessary. Part of him felt like he was betraying his uncle, and former master, by doing so. But, survival was the key. Without zeni, he couldn't have food and shelter. That was more pressing then mere honor.

He waited at the side of the ring, watching two brutes wrestle each other into submission. People were gathered on bleachers on either side, shouting and hooting. It was no Tenkaichi Budokai, but there were at least three hundred gathered to watch the action.

The one brute did a shoulder roll and tossed his opponent out of the ring. Crono watched him sail through the air and crash into the rampart mat protecting the stands.

“And that is the match! The winner is Stryker. Go Stryker! Our next match is a young fighter named Crono versus Jeraph. Both of these warriors are new to our festivities. Let's see what they're made of!” a gravely voice said over the PA.

Crono stepped into the ring, leaving his katana leaning against the rampart. He just hoped no one took it. The tournament was strictly hand to hand combat. It didn't matter either way. He only drew his blade when he had the intention of killing the target he drew it against. When Jeraph stepped forward Crono's eyes widened. He could feel the warrior's ki signature. He was no novice, like most of the entries, and immediately Crono knew he might pose a challenge.

The bell dinged, indicating the start of the match. The red haired teen grinned. “My name is Crono. Let's give these people a good show!”

In a blur of motion, he vanished. When he re-appeared again, he was at Jerpahs side and threw a heavy knee aimed at his lower back.

Jeraph had decided to enter the South City fighting circuit to test his abilities, he had watched the two muscle bound idiots in the ring with a mix of pity, and humor, knowing that neither would prove real competition. There was only one strong energy source he felt in the crowd although he couldn't pin point who it was coming from. As the fight ended and his name was called for the next bout. Jeraph wished to adhere to the policies of the tournament so removed his European style long sword from his shoulder, and leaned it against the ramp before he entered the ring. As he mounted the ring he saw his opponent, a youthful redhaired teen, who seemed well prepared, a katana was sitting against the rampart. His opponent also had a unique ki signature, most unlike the one's he had encountered previously and surely nothing like the rest of the people in the tournament. This was the ki he had been feeling all day, wondering who it belonged to.

"This should be interesting" Jeraph thought as he heard the teen say “My name is Crono. Let's give these people a good show!”.

Jeraph was in mid introduction when he noticed the teen blink from where he was.

"Crap, where has he gone" Jeraph thought to himself.

The answer came in the form of a knee to the lower back that sent Jeraph lunging forward. Jeraph regained his balance from the surprise attack, turned to face Crono.

"I am Jeraph, and that hurt" Jeraph said to the teen with a smile.

The smile hid the fact that his back muscles has spasmed for several seconds after the knee hit.

"I was right this is going to get interesting" Jeraph thought his blue eyes studying his opponent.

Jeraph then lunged forward at the teen using just his normal speed, as he neared he lashed out attempting an elbow strike to the butt of the jaw, followed immediately by his other hand rushing at the sternum attempting a palm thrust to knock the wind from his opponent. Neither blow meant to finish the fight, but both meant to help the end come quicker.

Crono felt his knee make a sold connection. The impact caused Jerpah to lunge forward, however he was able to catch his balance and reel back around to face Crono.

"I was right this is going to get interesting,” Jeraph said.

He charged Crono, throwing a heavy elbow his way. The red haired warrior had not been expecting him to attack so suddenly. The blow slammed into his jaw, jerking his head back. Spittle flew from his lips, and his eyes watered slightly from the pain.

Bringing his head back forward, Crono saw that Jeraph was moving in for a palm strike. He stepped sideways, and brought leg up in a tenacious front kick counter attack, aiming heel of his foot at the warrior's lower abdomen.

He's got some moves, that's for sure.

With the kick finished, he lowered his right leg and then snapped his left leg up immediately, twisting his body back around. His leg cut an arcing through the air and his baggy pants flapped in the wind. The round house kick was at Jerpah's temple, and the crimson haired warrior hoped it would be enough to daze him.

Backing off after the round house, Crono slid back into his stance. He dropped down low, nearly into a crouch. Not letting his opponent fully recover, Crono sprang into to his next attack. He threw two blazing fast punches aimed at Jerpah's midsection. After the last punch he froze and then yanked his forearm back. Pushing off the ground, he turned it into a rising elbow aimed at his opponent's chin.

Jeraph heard his fist hit the opponents jaw which brought a smile to Jeraph's lips. He knew that it was no where near enough to finish the opponent and he didn't seem dazed even, but he had landed the blow and he still had the palm strike flying at the opponent. As his hand drew near the opponent, Crono dodged to the left, effectively sidestepping the blow. Immediately he threw a kick towards Jeraph's abdomen.

Jeraph hopped backwards around 5 feet using powered flight to help dodge the oncoming kick. The next kick that came would have definitively left Jeraph stunned, but using the powered flight he managed to get out of its way as well. That's when he saw his opponent do the unthinkable he rushed in not giving Jeraph a second to form a dodge or counter, Jeraph barely had time to put his hands up to form a block of the first two punches in the pummel attack, the elbow caught Jeraph right on the chin.

Jeraph could feel his jaw slamming shut, he heard his neck pop as his head was thrown backwards. The blow caused his vision to go white for a split second and tears to well in them. "Damn, that hurt Jeraph though as he lowered his head. Once Jeraph managed to get his opponent back into his sight, he immediately began charging his ki into his left hand, he could feel the energy flowing through him and pooling in each of his left hand. Once the left hand was full of ki he pointed one finger at Crono and silently released a Ki Beam directly at the teen's head.

This guy has some skill in hand to hand combat, Crono throught as his opponent had escaped most of his onslaught. His heard was pounding like war drums in his chest and he could feel his energy building up within him, like steam ready to be released. I wonder who trained him. I might ask him after this match. I do need a good master.

His opponent recovered from the elbow and pointed one finger at him. Crono thought for a moment that he was about to make some sort of threatening gesture. But, then he saw a shimmering bead of light appear at his finger tip. The bead turned into a concentrated beam, much like a laser, which barreled straight for him.

The last thing he had been expecting was a ki attack as such. The speed of it too surprised him and he reacted too late. The beam cut a burning groove across his shoulder, disintegrated his shirt in the process. With a howl of pain he gripped it, the cauterized wound pulsating with pain.

Despite the fact that he was now wounded, he couldn't help but feel excited.

“That was amazing,” he said, a grin spreading across his face. “My master taught me that there were three aspects of wielding spiritual energy—Reinforcement, Projection, and Manipulation. I have been searching for someone to teach me how to use projection and manipulation arts. That was a great projection. Every time I try to project my ki like that, it... explodes.”

Realizing he was still in the middle of a match, Crono shook off his distraction and vanished again. When he reappeared he was directly in front of Jeraph; so close he could feel his opponent's warm breath.

Crono brought his right leg around, attempting to wrap it around Jeraph's from behind. He reached out, trying to grip his opponent's forearms and with a burst of ki fly forward. With momentum, he planned to let go at the last second and send his opponent flying towards the out of bounds.

He followed after him, blinking out of sight in a blur of motion. When he reappeared, he was floating above Jerpah this time, both of his hands balled together above his head, as if he were holding the handle of a hammer. He brought them both down with as much strength as he could muster, attempting to bash Jerpah downward towards the ground.

As Khaos watched the Ki Beam strike his opponent's shoulder it brought him little satisfaction, he had hoped it would be a direct hit to the chest, this ending the match early. His opponents reaction surprised Khaos even more, and distracted him.

"“That was amazing,” he said, a grin spreading across his face. “My master taught me that there were three aspects of wielding spiritual energy—Reinforcement, Projection, and Manipulation. I have been searching for someone to teach me how to use projection and manipulation arts. That was a great projection. Every time I try to project my ki like that, it... explodes.”

Jeraph went to answer but before he could even muster the words thank you the teen was grabbing him and flying towards the area he really did not want to end up, he didn't want this match to end by ring out. Suddenly he Jeraph found himself flying on his own, but before he could do much about it a double hammer fist was coming at him trying to make him hit the earth and ending the match.

Jeraph tried to think quick, but the attack was too much for him to dodge, and he rocketed towards the earth, the only thing he could think of was to activate flight and powered flight. As he did the nimbus materialized beneath him, slowing his descent the powered flight rocketed him back towards his opponent. Jeraph made his body prone so he was flying head first at his opponent, he was trying to land a massive flying head butt.

Immediately when he reached the spot where Crono was, Jeraph hovered and lashed out with a kick, the heel of Jeraph's right foot aimed directly at Crono's left side. The head butt and kick would be quite painful if the struck, and possibly wind his opponent.

With a satisfied smile, Crono watched as Jerpah plummeted towards the Earth. At the last second, the warrior caught himself on a cushion of ki and rebounded, flying at him full speed, a blazing aura flickering to life around his form. Crono managed to cross his arms in front of him in an X, stopping his opponent's headbutt dead-on, but was launched back by the impact.

Jeraph was not finished, however. He rushed at Crono, swinging his leg around in a side kick. Crono jerked his own knee up, bending his leg for reinforcement. He stopped the attack on the hardest part of his knee cap, feeling the strength of the blow reverberating through his entire leg.

“You're pretty strong,” Crono said. He was a bit out of breath and sweat droplets had formed above his brow, wetting his headband. “We should train together more often after this. What do you say Jeraph?”

He gave his opponent a brief respite to answer his inquiry, and then pounced with his next move. Flying straight at him like an arrow, he came to a screeching halt right in front of him and began to unleash a furious barrage of punches. He aimed them high and low, making it harder for his opponent to fully block, at the same time trying to distribute as much damage as he could across his whole body.

“Sorry,” Crono said after the barrage had ended. “I really need to win this so I can get some dinner.”

He had no idea if Jerpah was anywhere near down for the count, but he could feel his arms feeling limp and his chest heaving back and forth. He certainly hadn't expected to break a sweat, let alone get a work out in a tournament full of wrestlers and brawlers. No, he had found himself a true martial artist.

You're pretty strong,”Jeraph heard Crono say. Jeraph was pretty winded, every muscle in his body was burning slightly.

“We should train together more often after this. What do you say Jeraph?" The young teen asked, giving Jeraph a moment to answer.

"It would be an honor, you are a worthy opponent, and a fine warrior"Jeraph replied trying not to sound out of breath.

That is when the fists from Crono started flying, each one landing at a different point of contact on Jeraph's body, each one felt like getting struck by a 10 pound hammer. Every single fist that landed left a nice bruise immediatly, one contacted Jeraph's jaw and almost made the lights go out. Jeraph's vision blurred from the strikes, the pain from every blow of the eight causing him to almost want to just quit. As quickly as the attack started it stopped, and left Jeraph battered, and bruised.

“Sorry,” Crono said after the barrage had ended. “I really need to win this so I can get some dinner.”

Jeraph heard the words, and suddenly felt sorry for the teen. To find out that Crono was fighting for survival was almost too much for Jeraph to bear. Jeraph had only entered this tournament to test his skill, he had learned what he wanted to learn about himself, in this bout with Crono. He knew by far this was one of the best the planet earth had to offer, and he had been lashing out with some wicked strikes every moment of this battle.

"Lets finish this with a bang" Jeraph thought to himself, then spoke out loud to Crono "You are awesome, lets finish this so you can get some food."

"Good luck" Jeraph said loudly.

Jeraph didn't wait for a response, immediately he began to fly normal speed towards the teen as he flew he began to feel his ki surge through his body, it started at his toes, went up the legs into the stomach and chest, the out to each of his hands. Jeraph could feel his ki moving like the flow of a river, and building up in both hands like the path way was blocked by a dam. As he neared his opponent he raised his left hand towards Crono, and removed the block of the flow, as he did the ki immediately rushed outward in a ki wave aimed directly at the teen. The release of ki was similar to a dam breaking on a river, it was a massive release.

Jeraph didn't want to let off for a second, he was sure this would be the final moments of the match, win or lose he planned to make sure that Crono had food, but he wanted also to do one final test of himself. The Ki was steal building in his right arm when he got to the point where he had last seen his opponent before the ki wave hit the spot, he pointed the hand at what should be the teens chest and from close range unleashed the restraint on the ki letting it form a ball and with that it flew in the direction aimed.

Jeraph was almost out of breath, but he had one last trick left, he quickly allowed the ki to rush into his left hand once more, he aimed at what should be Crono, and a dazzling purple ligh of ki began to form at his finger tips, he then pointed his fingers at Crono and released a Ki beam directly at him. Satisfied that he has tested each of his abilities to the max, Jeraph felt the fatigue setting in, the sweat dripping down his skin, his muscles tired, burning and aching, the bruises screaming enough. These last three ki attacks were the final test of his abilities, he hoped it would be enough to scratch Crono, since nothing else seemed to have really phased him.

"You are awesome, lets finish this so you can get some food. Good luck,” Jeraph said.

He flew at Crono, his spiritual energy swelling through the roof as he made his way. He's about to use another energy attack.

Sure enough, he did. Jerpah unleashed a moderate sized wave of energy that barreled towards Crono. The young warrior thought about dodging it, but hesitated. If he dodged, it would have flown straight into the crowd and caused a lot of damage. Distracted by his lack of decision, the wave hit him head on, sending him flying back. Grabbing it with both hands, he managed to move it enough and roll off the end. The wave careened into the rampart and exploded, sending up a huge cloud of smoke and dust.

Through the smoke, Crono saw a hazy shimmering light and knew a second energy attack was headed his way. He braced himself, this time resolving to stop it. The ki orb slammed into both of his hands and he heaved it up, sending it up int the sky. '

He was tattered up and covered in minor burns. Floating down, he landed at the edge of the ring. Gasping for breath, he felt his arms slump to his side. But, little did he know Jeraph wasn't finished with his assault. The smoke and had just started to clear when he saw a purple beam headed straight for him. It sliced a groove through his thigh. Reeling back in pain, his opposite foot slipped and he fell out of the ring, landing among the soft grass.

“Well," he said, not bothering to get up. "Looks like there's no dinner for me tonight.”

"We have a disqualification" the announcer yelled over the microphone, "Jeraph has been disqualified for use of a gun and special effects.

Jeraph looks stunned at the announcer, his adrenaline still pumping, and with this new development he almost loses it. It took every ounce of self restraint that Jeraph had not to go off on the judges for the disqualification. Eventually his anger subsided, as he sat there still semi stunned. Jeraph walked out of the arena, but before he did he spotted his opponent collecting his winnings from the match.

"Great match, and looks like you get to eat for more than just tonight" Jeraph said with a smile, looking at the nice sum of Zeni in Crono's hand.

"We should definitively train together some time, the way you handled my ki was amazing" Jeraph said, meaning it whole heartily.
